Video Poker is a favored game that usually will be wagered on in casinos around the world, or in your house on your PC, using an Internet connection. The regulations are absolutely simple and consist of the player trying to get the greatest combination of cards achievable in order to acquire money. In this respect it’s much the same as a normal game of poker, apart from the involvement with competing players. Of course, methods employed during a real-life game of poker, like bluffing, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker begins when the gambler inserts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the play button. A hand of 5 cards will be "given out" on the screen.

The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and gamblers should now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the bettor wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the gambler has chosen which cards he or she wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be dealt. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the pay out schedule can change from machine to machine, so that skillful players are able to select the most profitable machine each time.

Once the initial round has completed, the player can either decide to stay on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that might have been won. Further, several styles of the game give the player an opportunity to double their wins, in which case another round is played. There are also variations between specific games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
