Video Poker is a popular game that is able to be played in casinos across the globe, or in your house on your personal computer, using a web connection. The rules are absolutely straightforward and consist of the player trying to get the highest mixture of cards achievable in order to come away with money. In this respect it’s much the same as a classic game of poker, minus the line of contact with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant here.
The game of Electronic Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or money) into the video poker machine and presses the draw button. A 5 card hand will be electronically ‘dealt’ on the screen.
The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and enthusiasts will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the player wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it is all or none.
After the gambler has decided on which cards she wishes to keep, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be given out. The hand is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the payout schedule.
Normally, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the payout schedule can change from game to game, so that discerning gamblers are agile enough to select the most profitable game each instance.
Once the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to continue on and try to to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that have been won. Further, a few versions of the game give the enthusiast a chance to increase their wins, in which instance a further hand is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
